Permanent search and interim cover

Every executive role we recruit is available as a permanent search or an interim appointment, depending on what your trust needs.

Permanent search is the right route when you have time to run a proper campaign and you're looking for someone who will shape the next five years of the organisation. Interim cover is for trusts that need experienced leadership in post within weeks following a resignation, an Ofsted outcome, a DfE concern notice, or a specific change programme that doesn't warrant a substantive appointment.

We regularly run the two together: interim cover bridging to a permanent appointment, with continuity managed across both.

How is education executive recruitment different from generic executive search?

A generic executive search firm will work across sectors and apply similar processes to each. Education executive recruitment means consultants who work only in the schools and MAT sector, candidates who are already in or adjacent to the system, and role specifications written in the language of the Academies Financial Handbook, DfE trust quality descriptions and KCSIE rather than commercial equivalents. 

Which executive roles do you actively recruit?

The three roles we run active campaigns for are Chief Executive, Chief Finance Officer and Chief Operating Officer — each with its own page and its own named consultant. We have also appointed Directors of Education, Executive Principals and Directors of HR where the brief sits close to those core three. If you're considering an executive-level role outside this list, we're happy to discuss whether we're the right team for the brief.

How do you handle safer recruitment for executive appointments?

Every candidate we present, permanent or interim, has been through DBS, identity, right-to-work, qualification and reference checks in line with current KCSIE guidance. We design executive interview processes with safeguarding-informed questions, and where the board wants a specific safeguarding panel in the process we'll build it in. For interim placements, contracting is through Propelo on IR35-compliant terms so the trust isn't managing off-payroll working risk directly
